Teri Dee Martin

Summer 2018

Teri Dee Martin has been volunteering at Sammy’s House since 2006 when she and her Chi Omega Austin Alumni group adopted the Pre-K room in our current building on Twin Oaks. When Teri first laid eyes on the new building her first thoughts were, “it was a mess, I could not see how Isabel was ever going to get the building open for the first students.” So, Teri got to work, she coordinated a complete renovation of the Pre-K classroom including its painting, installing kitchen cabinets, and was even able to secure a donation from Sears to provide and install the appliances.

Since beginning at Sammy’s House Teri says the best thing to happen is that Sammy’s House is now recognized as an important and necessary part of the Austin community. On volunteering at Sammy’s House, Teri says, “it makes me feel blessed to be a part of a wonderful family.” We feel the same way, Teri! We thank Teri for her continued service and congratulate her on becoming our first Volunteer Spotlight!

We leave you with some words of wisdom from Teri Dee Martin:

My wish is that all people knew that Sammy’s House is a wonderful environment for medically fragile children and their families. That the teachers and staff are amazing and go above and beyond to make sure that each child’s needs are met on a daily basis. To potential donors: be assured that every penny is put to good use. To potential volunteers: just do it. There are numerous volunteer opportunities that can be done to help these teachers continue to do what they do best, and what they do best is provide a safe, caring environment for children with very special needs.
